I’ve been thinking a lot about love lately. This involves having many feelings as well. In today’s telecall, Lori & I discussed love with our callers. This post reflects my own thoughts and experiences. You will undoubtedly have your own.
I believe love is a state of being. I don’t think it holds up very well as a verb. We open to love, feel love, know love, express love. When we are fully open and able to truly receive another without judgement or conditions — this is the closest we can come to loving another. Please read the last sentence again and realize how hard this is. The more whole we feel, the easier this gets. That too is a tall order.
I often say, “Love is not for the weak of heart.” Ironically sometimes hearts must break open. I find that fear, pride, and judgement sabotage our truest intentions to experience the beauty of human intimacy. I know how hard it is to step back when our ego pumps us up with self-righteousness.
Love is most easily accessed in silence, with soft eyes, in low contrast. It is most readily felt in the privacy of our own space, out of reactive reach. However you personally find easiest, please practice accessing love. Really. Every day in any way you can. Smile, imagine, pray, cry, be still, be quiet. Listen for it. Look for it. Ask for it to make itself known to you. Ask to be in service of love. Pet your cat; hug a tree; sing with the birds; laugh with little children. Open where and when you can. This world needs more of us being like that . Living love.
In any gathering,
in any chance meeting on the street,
there is a shine, an elegance rising up.
