Last issue I wrote about The Law of Intention & Desire and stated that intention must be combined with detachment. Detachment is a powerful spiritual law which serves to help us to create Heaven on earth. In The Four Fold Way, Angeles Arrien says that detachment is not about being cold and aloof. It is actually about “caring deeply from a separate place.” In our earthly experiences it is ever so easy to get wrapped around the axle of countless life dramas. Detachment, like faith, is virtually meaningless until “the rubber meets the road”.
Deepak Chopra, in The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, describes the Law of Detachment as teaching us that “in order to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it. You don’t give up the intention, and you don’t give up the desire. You give up your attachment to the result.” This is both difficult and very powerful. “Anything you want can be acquired through detachment because detachment is based on the unquestioning belief in the power of your true Self.”
The more we desire something, the more we typically become attached to the idea of having it. And we also set forth a plan for getting it. Attachment is based upon fear and insecurity which reflects a lack of knowing and having faith in our true or Higher self. In my talks and seminars I often ask participants, “What does ’security’ mean to you? What makes you feel secure?” We almost always assign our sense of security to attachments, whether with people or things (including money). However these are all transitory, hence creating more insecurity.
In my mind, our human earthly experience is a balancing act of being in the world and not of it. Of playing in the art studio of life, knowing that the artist is not the artworks, but the channel of creativity constantly flowing forth.
Deepak says that “true wealth consciousness is the ability to have anything you want, anytime you want and with least effort. To do this you must be grounded in the wisdom of uncertainty.” I call this being open to limitless surprising possibilities. The best laid plans must be laid aside to allow the brilliance of your Higher self to hook you up in ways you could never have imagined.
So dream your desires and hold your intentions, just be open to the myriad of paths to your manifestations. Do not link your happiness to having anything but in being the childlike, effortless creator that is your true Being and the source of your deepest joys. This the life of synchronicities, surprises and sweetness. It is truly Heaven on earth.
