When is “more” enough?

April 15th, 2008

Everyone knows what today is, right? Tax deadline day! In less than an hour, the news stations will show the lines of people rushing to mail their tax returns by midnight! What a yearly ritual! Only in America, right?

In honor of tax day I presented a seminar on Sunday night on “Prosperity & Abundance”! The first half of the seminar focused on manifesting “more” — more money, income, wealth, and support. As always I taught the central energetic principles of manifestation and co-creation (known as “the Law of Attraction”). I also taught the ways that most of us self-sabotage our ability to allow a steady flow of support from the Universe.

The second half of the seminar was a surprise. I distributed a handout entitled, “Reflections on Getting/Having More”. It included three key questions — Why do you want more? When is “more” enough? And, what is “enough”? As I allowed time to reflect and answer the questions, the energy of the group shifted to a much deeper and centered level. It was amazing and touching to behold.

As the participants began to discuss their answers it became very apparent that they had little to do with the anxious concerns most people had shared in part one of the seminar (i.e. how to have “more”). Everyone began to realize that they wanted “more” only to realize happiness and to share their bounty with others. They quickly felt the power of simply going straight to happiness and giving without the pressure and pre-requisite of needing “more”. Some powerful stories and testimonies brought this truth home for us all in a deeply moving way.

The amazing fact is that “more” won’t necessarily bring happiness, but happiness always brings expansiveness……and that sure is “more”.

Hope everyone here in central Ohio is truly enjoying the first glimpses of Spring! My daffodils and hyacinths are blooming and so beautiful to see! I love Spring!!! I’m sitting here with the windows open and wanting to share some reflections about a movie I saw this weekend.

The Moses Code is the latest offering from the Spiritual Cinema genre and it debuted here this past weekend at the Columbus Center for Spiritual Living. The central premise of the movie was the story of Moses and the burning bush. Moses received a sacred transmission from God through the image of a bush that was in flames but did not burn. The message was “I Am That I Am.” The movie proposes that the Moses Code is understood by inserting a comma (”I Am That, I Am.”) underscoring that God is in everything that exists. While I feel that the movie was well done and offered some good clips of various spiritual and metaphysical celebreties, the two conventions used in the movie (the comma, and the acronym for GOD) were weak. Moreover, one should not mess with sacred transmissions. That’s how most of the world’s religions have lost their way. Plus, what about languages that do not use commas?

Frankly, I was surprised to learn that Neale Donld Walsh never understood these sacred words until inserting the comma (and he’s had so very many “conversations with God”). Spiritual transmissions are sacred vibrations. They are offered and we are to find alignment with them. They are not to be tampered with so as to fit with our human limitations in aligning with them.

The acronym which was offered (Giving, Oneness, Destiny), while weak, proved to be a vehicle for some powerful testimony by some of the guest speakers. The one man whose story told of his experience at ground zero during 911, was compelling and truly beautiful.

All in all, I believe that this movie is certainly worth the watch. The score was great and the production superb. I believe that we must be careful to meet sacredness and mysticism where it lives…..in the mystery.

As always, I welcome your comments and discussion! See you at our next event, Sunday 4/13, 4-6pm at Alphastate Studios, “Special Topic Seminar” on PROSPERITY & ABUNDANCE! (And who couldn’t use a bit more of that two days before the tax deadline!)

Hi everyone, I’m back! (And on April Fool’s Day!) In all honesty, I really didn’t “go” anywhere (geographically, that is). However I’ve been busy developing two new ventures, besides keeping all the other balls in the air (coaching, consulting, seminars, talks, groups). Watch for upcoming information on two exciting developments! But for now, top secret!

This past weekend was a marathon event weekend for me — the “Enlightened Happy Hour” on Friday evening, two small group sessions on Saturday, and on Sunday I presented a “Special Topic Seminar” on WORK/CAREER. Each event was remarkable in its own way and I thoroughly enjoyed all the rich interaction and the beautiful personal growth and sharing among the participants.

Regarding WORK/CAREER, I notice that there is a rather pervasive vibe among most people about the topic. It’s one of toil, drudgery, compliance, control, resentment, and effort. The subject of WORK/CAREER is also closely related to that of MONEY/INCOME/PROSPERITY/ABUNDANCE. This makes some sense, but again, the vibe is usually one of lack, fear, feeling controlled and denied. How do YOU feel about the topic of WORK/CAREER? Even the word “work” (which is the term most commonly used) connotes toil, effort, and difficulty. Words hypnotize us. Language programs our minds which in turn triggers our emotions, which together create our life. It makes sense then that most people do not enjoy their work. At best they tolerate it in exchange for a paycheck, and at worst are becoming physically ill from the stress of doing something they greatly dislike. Despite this rather dismal daily drama, most people will not quit their jobs, but rather will manifest all manner of exit dramas — being re-org’d, streamlined, downsized, severanced, and just plain “let go”!!! Why all the drama about WORK/CAREER?

At my seminar I presented some great material to help explain these self-inflicted painful patterns. Basically the truth is that when we hand our power over to others to take care of us, it is a slippery slope in a direction that’s never very pretty! People hate work and bosses and “the corporation” because they have handed over their power, plain and simple. My suggestion is a radical conceptual shift about “work”. Why not view it as an “energy exchange”? Everything in life on earth is an energy exchange. So why can’t work (and all forms of relationship) be as natural, neutral, effortless and refreshing as breathing. In and out. A rhythmic exchange, never-ending. Air is always there. So is the marketplace and all manner of opportunities within it. I invite you to take charge of your life. Embrace your empowerment to share your skills and talents with whomever you choose for as long as your are enchanted to do so. Then move on, creating cycle after cycle of exciting “energy exchange”! Sure beats “working” doesn’t it?
